Discover the 2024-2025 scientific activity report from Iméra, the Institute for Advanced Study of Aix Marseille Université. You will find out about our fellows, their activities, awards, publications and more.

The Iméra formula

According to a vision that originated almost a century ago at Princeton’s IAS, an institute for advanced study (IAS) is an oasis of calm and beauty that offers the world’s best researchers the opportunity to devote themselves to their research, far from the routine of ordinary academic life. Since its founding, Iméra has been inspired by this prestigious model, while developing over time its own increasingly original approach.

The cohort welcomed to the Institute during the 2024-2025 academic year was able to experience the most advanced version of this ‘Iméra formula’. The most significant features that characterise it today include: increasingly fruitful co-presence and collaboration between scientists and artists; a variety of fellowships ranging from the traditional 5- or 10-month residency for international specialists to the CRCT for amU teacher-researchers, from young postdoctoral researchers to Senior Fellows; interdisciplinary discussion and research initiatives such as the CBS (Community-Building Seminar).

An ideal of collective excellence that can be embodied each year in an intercultural and interdisciplinary community of researchers driven by curiosity and open to scientific, artistic and human collaboration.

Enrico Donaggio, Iméra’s scientific director.

A few key figures

  • Iméra welcomed a class of 21 academic researchers and artists over the two semesters, from a variety of disciplines and countries.
  • These researchers held 11 partnership chairs, and their presence accounted for 144 researcher-months in 2024–2025.
  • The establishment of these chairs and the funding for the 2024–2025 residents’ visits were made possible thanks to our 21 partners.
  • In the end, 327 applications were received in response to our open call for the 2025–2026 academic year.

2024–2025: a year of experimentation

The 2024–2025 activity report gave the Iméra editorial committee the opportunity to try out a new format. In addition to a comprehensive document detailing all activities, a genuine communication tool has been created to address the visibility challenges faced by institutes of advanced study in the current economic and political climate.

This double-sided A3 leaflet highlights key activities from the four research programmes, as well as further details on the institute’s strategic priorities, such as certain financial aspects, and Iméra’s commitments to scientific diplomacy, and to supporting early-career researchers and scholars at risk.

It also features an exclusive interview with Olga Paris-Romaskevich, chair of Iméra’s Scientific Council, who discusses the unique features of méra and how it has developed in recent years.

This leaflet is available in French and English.

This printed version has been designed to accompany and supplement the scientific activity report, which is available in PDF format (you can access it via a QR code included directly in the leaflet!). However, the fact that it exists in print and the level of detail it contains mean that it can also stand on its own.

If you would like to receive a hard copy, please write to our communications officer, Fanny Trifilieff.
