Research project
Right/Left
Project summary
Originating in the revolutionary assemblies of 1789, the categories “right” and “left” have undergone multiple shifts in meaning and usage. How do we position ourselves on different sides of the political spectrum? With Droite / Gauche, we attempt an archaeology of our political orientations. What are their roots? How do we inherit them? What kind of “being in the world” do they construct? In the form of a multi-faceted quest – biographical, socio-historical and choreographic – that invites the spectator to navigate between family genealogies, individual trajectories and contemporary collective situations, we pursue the construction of a choreographic and documentary theater, nourished by the approaches of the social sciences. The scenic space is invested as the place of a possible construction, always renewed, of oneself and of the world.
