“Requisition of Marseille – Provisional Service” recounts the history of 15 requisitioned companies in Marseille between 1944 and 1948, where 15,000 workers participated in the management of their companies and generated significant profits. The last actors of this adventure bring this unprecedented episode to life by returning to the very sites of their work, accompanied by historian Robert Mencherini.

This social experiment, born from the National Council of Resistance’s program, advocated for the establishment of a “genuine economic and social democracy.” An ideology that echoes in today’s contemporary debates on the value of work and the purpose of the economy. This film-debate is a proposal from ArTLib at Iméra, co-organized with the Marseille History Museum as part of the event “1944-2024, the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Marseille,” in partnership with the City of Marseille’s Memory Service.
