Between February and October 2025, there were several opportunities to apply to Iméra for the 2026-2027 academic year through four calls: FIAS, Fulbright, the core call and the Friche la Belle de Mai/Iméra research-action. 376 applications were received, a new record!

Available chairs in the 2026-2027 core call
Six residences were opened by Iméra, the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of Aix Marseille Université, for the 2026-2027 academic year:
- Sciences Po Aix/Iméra Chair -Albert Hirschman: identity passions between Europe and the Mediterranean
- IRD/Iméra Chair – Sustainable Development and Interdisciplinarity
- EHESS/Iméra Chair – Transregional Studies
- t.core@amU/Iméra Chair – Transdisciplinarity and Research on Complex Systems
Among these, the Fulbright/Iméra Chair in Migration Studies (opened in February) and the Friche La Belle de Mai/Iméra research-action residency (opened at the end of July) were the subject of separate calls which closed during the second half of September 2025.
Iméra was also one of the best-endowed institutes for advanced study in the RFIEA network’s FIAS 2026-2027 call for proposals (FIAS = French Institutes for Advanced Study), with seven grants offered. This call ran from June to mid-July 2025 and resulted in 197 applications.
The number of applications received this year was exceptional: 376 in total for 13 residencies.
Focus on the 2026-2027 core call
The effort begun last year to improve the dissemination of the core call in Southern countries continued in 2025 and paid off. 160 applications were received for the four chairs on offer.
While 35% of applications came from Europe and 30 from North America, 29 came from academic researchers and artists active on the African continent (10 based in sub-Saharan countries), 17 from Asia, 15 from the Middle East, 10 from South America and 2 from Oceania .
