Research project
Corps étranger: a multidisciplinary study of older migrant women’s representations in their host society
Project summary
The research project aims to produce documentary material reflecting cultural, social, political, biological and cultural perspectives on the aging of migrant women. It focuses on the notion of bodily socialization. Two main areas of inquiry are defined. The first concerns the “codification” of the body, focusing on the institutions where the body is inscribed and translated into new terms (administration, medical field, legal framework). The second field concerns the “narration” of the body by the women themselves, and the way in which they put it into words at the crossroads of their culture of origin and the culture of the host country. The research corpus will be produced from interviews, archive documents and photographic documentation on the practices and places through which the body becomes social.
