Research project

Turbulence, wave-vortex interactions in fluids and plasmas. Fundamental aspects, oceanographic and astrophysical applications.

Project summary

Study of wave-vortex interactions in fluids and plasmas and search for simple, relatively universal models, applicable to different disciplines, from hydrodynamic turbulence to plasmas.the richest “wave-vortex” decomposition approach comes from the study of stratified accretion disks in astrophysics, and provides elements on linear stability, strong transient growth of instabilities, and finally turbulence, in other disciplines. The formalism of homogeneous (statistically) anisotropic turbulence and the theory of triadic interactions then allows us to consider turbulence developed “forced” by a physical instability, and not by artificial stochastic forcing.

Resident hosted in partnership with the PIIM-Physique des Interactions Ioniques et Moléculaires laboratory (AMU/CNRS).
