Presentation

Who feels called upon to talk about what? Being situated is the condition for being able to perceive and act. But can only those who are situated in a certain way take a stand? Phenomenology is particularly important in answering this question, because ‘situation’ is one of its fundamental concepts. Heidegger and Sartre, Beauvoir and Merleau-Ponty have used it to describe the horizon of possibilities for the experiencing self.

Thomas Bedorf follows this line and develops a new understanding of being-situated, based on a philosophy of difference. It leads to a political phenomenology that reconfigures the space between the place from which speech is taken and the public space where politics is articulated. This demonstration runs counter to certain tendencies in the heated debates on ‘stand points’ and privilege. A highly topical book.
