Renowned historian Karima Dirèche, CNRS research director at the MMSH (Maison méditerranéenne des sciences de l’Homme), and guest of Iméra, provided an insightful analysis of Franco-German university cooperation in North Africa during the first Berlin edition of the Franco-German Mediterranean Forum. Former director of the IRMC (Institute for Research on Contemporary Maghreb) in Tunis and the Jacques Berque Center in Rabat, Dirèche offered valuable perspectives on academic challenges in the Mediterranean region.

This forum, held at the French Embassy in Berlin on October 17-18, 2024, focused on the theme “Opportunities and Perspectives in the Mediterranean Area.” It brought together international researchers and key economic and political figures from Germany, France, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia for panel discussions, followed by audience exchanges.

Topics addressed included geopolitics and security in the Mediterranean in light of the Gaza war, the issue of near-shoring, Marseille’s role as a hub for Mediterranean and African start-ups, renewable energies, and regional digital cooperation opportunities.
