Dominique Reill, holder of the Fulbright / Iméra Chair in Migration Studies in 2023-2024, was appointed President of the Central European History Society at the end of February.
Central European History Society
Since 1958, the Central European History Society (CEHS) has been encouraging researchers to take an interest in the diverse and complex history of the region. It is the leading organisation for all historians, of any specialty or time period, doing research on lands with significant German-speaking populations, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the former Habsburg Empire and its successor states (which includes today’s Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, and Italy).
The CEHS represents all researchers working on these issues in North America.
Dominique Reill, new CEHS president
At the beginning of 2025, Dominique Reill was appointed President of the Central European History Society, having previously been elected Vice-President.
Dominique Reill’s academic interests lie in shedding light on overlooked stories of Modern Europe, moving away from well-known narratives to explore neglected aspects of history. As a professor at the University of Miami, she teaches students to view Europe as an unknown world, emphasizing cultural and social dynamics alongside the political histories that captivate students. In recognition of her contributions to academia, Dominique was promoted to Full Professor of Modern European History in 2022.
