Wonders of the sea: biodiversity through art

How can artistic representations of the past tell us about marine biodiversity today? What can art teach us about our relationship with living things? Using an original approach at the crossroads of art and science, marine biologists, historians, archaeologists, ichthyologists, anthropologists and international artists are selecting and analysing mirabilia: ancient, modern and contemporary works of art to study the evolution of aquatic biodiversity and the impact of human activities on marine resources. Art (pictorial and plastic) offers us the opportunity to explore the evolution of ecosystems and our imagination over time, inviting discovery, reflection and wonder.
