Revolution, charisma and democracy: representing “the people
Project summary
Starting from the revolutionary processes initiated in the Arab world, this project proposes an analysis of self-sacrificial violence in the dynamics of “emotional communitization” in periods of historical rupture – which implies the introduction of the unpredictable into the research framework and, consequently, determines several methodological requirements. It is part of a reflection on charisma and the political and symbolic transformations of the contemporary world. If the term democracy is not simply a normative concept or a utopia with no heuristic value for the analysis of contemporary societies, it is important to highlight the ethical claims inherent in certain passionate dynamics. On the other hand, it is important to articulate the interpretation of texts of modern political thought with that of the modes of figuration of “emotional” political communities.
