Research project
The sound of light and the invisible (sonification of spectra)
Project summary
The aim of the project is to create a sound and visual installation to sonify spectra.
This project is a continuation of work undertaken with the PIIM laboratory at the University of Aix-Marseille, and more specifically with physicist Alexandre Escarguel.
The aim of the project is to obtain auditory feedback of data from plasma experiments on the MISTRAL machine, as a first step towards the sonification of spectra from celestial objects.
An installation will not only enrich the understanding of information from the MISTRAL machine, but also express artistic sensibility via the sonification process. The final installation will be presented in a planetarium, where the celestial vault can be “heard” and the observer – whether scientist or visitor – can perceive the position and movement of celestial objects.
Hosted at Iméra in partnership with the Physics of Ionic and Molecular Interactions laboratory (PIIM, AMU/CNRS).
