Research project

Diversity management in the West: the induced “crisis” of reading paradigms.

Project summary

The presence in the West of immigrant communities from Muslim societies is the source of confusion, which is taking on the appearance of a crisis, as to how to think about the normative dimension of managing this diversity. We wish to undertake a meta-analysis of the different paradigms, generally associated with different disciplinary approaches, used to think about this issue. These paradigms have theoretical limits that are inherent to the discipline to which they belong; they are affected by the normative positions that underpin analytical approaches; and they have been designed (implicitly) for less complex situations. To overcome these limitations, we need to bring together both disciplines and objects of study: processes of integration or exclusion in host societies, for example, and political and historical processes in Arab-Muslim societies.
