Marie-Pierre Ulloa, director of Iméra’s Mediterranean program mediating the presentation

In her latest work, Alice Kaplan unveils the inner workings of the extraordinary destiny of the Algerian artist Baya: destined to be a maid in colonial Algeria, the teenager will be propelled to celebrity status; always unexpected, dazzling, she still inspires many artists today.

As a historian, writer, and French professor at Yale University (USA), the author, winner of the 2014 Camargo Fellowship, will present her work on May 13, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Camargo Foundation. The meeting will be moderated by our Mediterranean program director, Marie-Pierre Ulloa, author, historian, and sociologist herself.

A sale of the book “Seeing Baya : portrait of an Algerian artist in Paris” will be organised by Librairie Préambule following the event.
