Physicien spécialiste des plasmas de fusion,Institute for Fusion Studies, University of Texas at Austin.

A three year project to build a Center of Excellence for plasma confinement and transport research at the St Jerome campus of the University of Provence is described. The Center would expected to become world leaders in the development of new fundamental physics and the associated computer simulation codes for predicting and interpreting the turbulent plasma losses in toroidal plasma confinement systems. The group of young and mid-career plasma physicist assembled at the Center will immediately perform basic theoretical research and code development work on the well known models for the drift wave instabilities in magnetically confined high temperature plasmas. The proposal focuses on three key problems areas associated with the drift wave and tearing mode turbulence in toroidal magnetic confinement systems.
